TanTerra presents the frontier of world-class Tannat based wines nurtured and hand crafted by a family of winemakers that is almost as old as the winemaking traditions of Uruguay themselves, observing responsible growing practices in producing estate grown and bottled wines that display the intensity, power, and richness of classic Old World offerings yet still deliver the complexity, elegance and finesse of vibrant, exciting New World wines.
The wines have surpassed our own expectations by a broad margin; something for which we are grateful, thankful, and, well, pretty surprised. Working with Tannat is not an easy thing, nor are there the same voluminous banks of experience to call upon as one finds when working with the more commonly known and traditionally produced varietals. Very few people, only a handful really, have successfully tamed the elevated levels of tannin and astringency of this noble vitis vinifera.

Vineyards:
Far from the reach of industry and urban sprawl, these ancient vineyards are located in one of the purest environments on earth in which fine wine grapes are grown. The ideal microclimate and thoughtfully managed vineyards produce wines of a unique nature.
The vineyards enjoy the benefits of consistent summer heat of the 32nd parallel contrasted by Antarctic jetstreams in the winter, resulting in the same dynamic growing seasons enjoyed by the McLaren Vale in Australia and Stellenbosch in South Africa.
Estate Wines:
In conjunction with our vintner partners, a family that boasts a long family history of viticulture and oenological tradition in Uruguay, TanTerra wines are estate grown and bottled. Sustainable farming, growing and winemaking practices result in minimal handling and authentic expressions of this heretofore unknown terroir.
Our Wines:
Tannat~Cabernet Sauvignon:
With fruit from the century old vineyard at the winery, we’ve created this wine that embodies the power of Tannat combined with the elegance and round, robust fruit-fullness of a luxurious Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a wine that is graceful yet intense, with a rich, lingering finish that will enchant and delight your wine senses.
Tannat~Syrah:
Succulent, ripe fruit with a touch of white pepper and currant, reminiscent of a true Old World Syrah. That distinctive Syrah’s individuality is wrapped around the plush, tannic core of the noble Tannat, rich with character and strength, resulting in an exuberant new wine that will delight you with its silky texture and its dynamic finish.
Tannat:
TanTerra’s flagship wine is carefully nurtured and matured to bring you a wine that is 100% Tannat. This beautiful juice surpassed our expectations for the first vintage and will both enlighten and surprise your olfactory senses. Dark and rich, concentrated and dense, it brings you ripe, dark fruit essences merged with chocolate, tobacco and a delicate balance of oak and tannins to bring you to a lingering finish that is robust and distinctive, yet supple and silky in the mouth.
