TanTerra prides itself on its commitment to the environment by partnering with organizations that prize sustainability and employ practices that preserve the natural world. As such, TanTerra selectively chose to source its wine from the Bodegas Castillo Viejo vineyards of Uruguay, where the best Tannat is produced.
Our winery partner, Bodegas Castillo Viejo, has always respected the environment while cultivating the best Tannat wine. The sustainable growing practices used at Bodegas Castillo Viejo protect our natural surroundings and produce marvelous Tannat grapes and Tannat wine.

The family emphasizes respect for the environment that extends beyond the established norms. This is reflected in all activities in the vineyards and winery operations, encompassing farming practices, winemaking practices and all operational standards. Perhaps it's the family's drive to go above and beyond that has earned them a reputation for producing some of the world's best Tannat.

The
full time personnel at Bodegas Castillo Viejo, as well as the
seasonal workers during the harvest, are taught sustainability and
consistently managed in order to assure the employment of and
compliance with environmentally sound practices. Bodegas Castilla
Viejo has proactively developed preventive attitudes and implemented
rigorous processes to produce the best Tannat while avoiding
environmental contamination or pollution of any kind.
Each year brings a renewed effort to continue the study and teaching of sustainable growing practices in the pursuit to cultivate the best Tannat. This impressive effort searches for ways to improve ecological practices within the agricultural processes employed by Bodegas Castilla Viejo. These efforts include an integrated management approach in the vineyards and the winery operations, with constant and continuing respect for flora and fauna, always looking for ways to further reduce the carbon footprint..
One example the Etcheverry family's commitment to harmonious living is that all vineyard projects are planned and executed in a manner that is geared towards improved stewardship of the environment. Each project considers the importance of sustainable farming and growing practices as well as environmentally sound methods and practices employed in creating the best Tannat wines, making it the Uruguayan wine of choice.
